TV Lamps 1950's Coolest Collectibles
I love the short lived history of TV Lamps! Not many can remember when television was new in the 50's and the amount of concern it created over possible eye damage. This was a real issue for many households at that time. Thus, USA lighting manufacturers made decorative ceramic lamps to place on top of the TV and marketed them as a risk reducer for eye damage while viewing television. The "threat" didn't last long and TV lamps were only made for about ten years. In photos above a ship TV lamp which was popular on the east coast. Popular in the Southwest were the mallard duck TV lamps. Read more about this unique product and it's history at http://www.tvlamps.net/duck_lamps.html.
